Juráňova Valley – a hidden gem of the Western Tatras

Juráňova Valley is a picturesque valley in the Western Tatras of Slovakia and is considered one of the most beautiful gorges and natural attractions in the region. It was formed by the Biela voda stream, which carved a narrow canyon with small waterfalls and rocky passages. The valley is also part of
a national nature reserve and offers beautiful views and rich natural diversity.

Route and educational trail

The route starts in the village of Oravice and follows the stream through a narrow gorge, along forest trails up to the Umrlá saddle. Along the way, you will pass sections of the gorge with wooden bridges, ladders, and benches that make the walk more enjoyable.

  • Route length: approximately 9 km
  • Hiking time: approximately 2.5–3 hours
  • Elevation gain: approximately 190–240 m
  • Difficulty: easy to moderately challenging

Along the route, gentle climbs alternate with pleasant forest paths and open scenic views.

What you can see

  • A narrow canyon formed by the Juráňov stream with small waterfalls
  • Bridges and wooden walkways above the stream
  • Forests, meadows, and beautiful views of the surrounding hills of the Western Tatras

The valley is also known for its rich flora and the opportunity to observe alpine plant communities along the trail.

Important notices

  • Parts of the gorge in Juráňova Valley are seasonally closed, usually from November 1 until the end of April or mid-June, for nature protection and visitor safety reasons.
  • The trail can be slippery after rain, so sturdy hiking footwear and suitable outdoor clothing are recommended.

Practical information

Parking is available directly at the Oravice thermal spa, which also serves as the starting point for the hike. From there, you can comfortably follow the marked trails leading into the valley.
