Museum of the Orava Village
The Museum of the Orava Village in Zuberec is one of the most beautiful places in Orava. Located in a natural setting at the foot of the Roháče Mountains on the Brestová clearing, it offers visitors a glimpse into Orava life in the past.
The museum grounds feature more than 50 examples of folk architecture. You will see log houses, farm buildings, a mill, craft workshops, and a traditional wooden church. Individual sections of the museum represent different areas of Orava — Lower Orava, Upper Orava, and the Goral settlements.
A walk through the museum is suitable for families with children, couples, and visitors who wish to explore the region’s history in a peaceful and pleasant way. The site is set in beautiful nature, so a visit is not just about history, but also about enjoying a lovely walk.
What you can see
During your visit, you can look inside traditional Orava houses, view old household furnishings, farm areas, craft demonstrations, and the lifestyle of people in the past. An interesting landmark of the museum is the wooden Church of St. Elizabeth.
Who the trip is suitable for
The museum is suitable for both children and adults. Children will be captivated by the wooden houses, nature, and the atmosphere of old village life. Adults will appreciate the folk architecture, the history of Orava, and the peaceful environment beneath the mountains.
Length of visit
We recommend setting aside approximately 1.5 to 2 hours for a leisurely tour. If you wish to walk through the grounds more slowly, take photographs, or stop at individual buildings, please allow for more time.
Location
The museum is located near the village of Zuberec, in the Brestová area, heading towards Zverovka. It is an excellent tip for an excursion during a stay in Zuberec or the Roháče surroundings.
Practical recommendation
Before your visit, we recommend checking the current opening hours, especially outside the main tourist season. Comfortable footwear is recommended for the grounds, as the tour takes place outdoors.
